đŦđ§ United Kingdom
England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland
Powered by official Ordnance Survey Open Roads data
Routes guaranteed on pedestrian-safe infrastructure
Data updated monthly for accuracy
Full postcode coverage (all regions)
đ Investigating
đŽđĒ Ireland
Evaluating data availability and licensing. No timeline confirmed.
đŗđŋ New Zealand
LINZ data has strong pedestrian infrastructure. Evaluation in progress.
đ Possible Future Expansion
Australia, Canada, EU countries - Data exists in these regions but requires significant integration work. Each region has different data structures and licensing requirements. No dates or timelines committed.
Why UK-first? The UK has the best publicly-available pedestrian data (Ordnance Survey). Other regions require different approaches. Stroll focuses on quality over speed - every region launched will have verified, reliable walking data.
đ Developer Notes
đ Hello! Stroll is an indie project built by one developer. This is what's currently working and what's being built next.
â Currently Live & Working
đļ Circular route generation - Generates random walking routes
âąī¸ Time-based routing - Specify duration (15min to 2h)
đ Any UK location - Search by postcode, address, landmark
đēī¸ Route visualization - View on interactive map
đą PWA app - Install as app, works offline (cached)
đą Mobile responsive - Fully works on phone and tablet
âī¸ Currently Under Development
đŖī¸ Routing Logic (Priority #1)
Currently using OSRM public routing API. Building custom routing engine with Ordnance Survey data to support:
đŗ Scenic routes (via parks/nature areas)
đ¤Ģ Quiet routes (avoiding busy roads)
âĄī¸ Flat routes (minimal elevation)
đ Dog-friendly paths
đŖī¸ Paved surface preference
đ§ Child-friendly routes
đŧ Pushchair-accessible paths
âŋ Wheelchair-accessible infrastructure
đ Challenges & Badges
Weekly walking challenges, streak tracking, and badge collection system.
đĨ Community Heat Map
See popular routes in your area based on community activity.
The big picture: Stroll is building a complete mapping infrastructure for walking routes. The routing preferences require building our own routing engine from official government data rather than relying on public APIs. This ensures accuracy and opens up custom preference matching.
